Department for Business & Trade

As a Design Lead, I worked with international and domestic business audiences to assist internal product teams in enhancing existing services and launching new ones. A key project I led aimed to attract more international businesses to Expand to the UK. I played a central role from start to launch, mentoring junior designers, copywriters, and researchers as our team grew.

Facilitating Planning & Co-creation

Throughout the project's evolution, I facilitated planning workshops in collaboration with the product owner and business analyst to co-create a shared roadmap and our core user journeys and flows. I also helped facilitate multiple research planning sessions in collaboration with our lead researcher. Following the initial discovery research round, we conducted six rounds of user testing, iterating the designs based on feedback after each round with co-creative workshops where all members participated.

Crafting the DNA

Even though the government has UI guidelines for its GOV.UK domains and services, there was no UI library in place for the Department of Business & Trade. I collaborated with the broader GOV.UK team to create a customised UI kit specifically tailored to the department, aligning with the established familiarity and rules of GOV.UK UI. I worked closely with our full-stack developer to implement this.

The MVP was successfully launched in both the EU and US. a dedicated analytics team was assigned to monitor subscriber numbers and drop-off rates. As a result of this work, internal teams were able to assess the quality of the leads that were interested in growing their business in the UK and dedicate more time to larger organisations and investments. From now on, the team will monitor the analytics and make adjustments to the sign-up flows and content to provide the maximum value to the audience and achieve the KPIs.
